Goodbye UWISDOM
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that UWISDOM will no longer be accepting new projects or proposals, effective December 2025. UWISDOM was born from a desire to help our research community navigate the increasingly complex landscape of bioinformatics, providing collaborative support, guidance, and expertise to advance scientific discovery. Over the years, I have been privileged to work with amazing scientists and trainees, and to witness the creativity and innovation that emerge when researchers have the right computational support.
This decision comes as I prepare to leave the University of Washington. As the major driving force behind UWISDOM, my departure unfortunately means that the program cannot continue in its current form. Ending UWISDOM is deeply bittersweet. While I am excited for the next chapter in my own journey, it is difficult to close a program that has been such an integral part of my work and my connection to the UW research community.
Looking forward, I remain hopeful that a centrally-supported bioinformatics core will soon emerge to provide the critical resources and expertise our UW researchers need. The vision of a well-supported, collaborative environment for bioinformatics at UW is more important than ever, and I hope that the foundations laid by UWISDOM can help guide and inspire that next chapter.
To all who contributed to UWISDOM’s journey, thank you for trusting us with your science, for your collaboration, and for making this effort so rewarding. It has been an honor to serve the UW research community.
